Connected Women Research
To enhance mobile/internet access for millions of women, most of whom have never benefitted from access to mobile/internet before, Ooredoo recently joined with the GSMA and other partners to study the socio-economic benefits of greater inclusion of women. The study is ongoing and will lead to the creation of tailored products and services which speak to their real, everyday needs.
Maternal Healthcare in Myanmar
‘MayMay’ is a maternal healthcare app which bridges the mobile and health sectors to help ensure that a wealth of useful maternal, child health and wellness information is readily available to women across the country both during and after pregnancy. There is fast-growing demand for the service which is a great example of the unexpected benefits of connectivity for those who have never experienced the benefits of having a mobile phone in today’s digital world.
Challenging low mobile penetration among women in Iraq
In Iraq, Asiacell, which is part of Ooredoo, researched women’s needs extensively and designed a breakthrough service offering called Almas (‘diamond’) line with features matching the needs of Iraqi women for mobile services. Through this more than 2 million female customers have connected with friends and family, becoming more socially and financially independent.

In 2013, Indosat initiated Indonesia Womenpreneur Competition along with the Ministry of Women Empowerment and Fimela Magz, an Indonesian lifestyle magazine, as a challenge to ‘start-up womenpreneurs’ to run their business and optimize the use of ICT.
Empowering Myanmar's aspiring entrepreneurs
In Myanmar Ooredoo and partners are supporting women’s entrepreneurship through a franchisee model which will enable tens of thousands of women in Myanmar to sell prepaid Ooredoo airtime to their communities.
Supporting micro-enterprise in indonesia
Nearly two-thirds of Indonesia’s entrepreneurs are women. Indosat’s Inspera initiative focuses on these ‘womenpreneurs’, offering functional training through the use of mobile technology while providing guidance for how to become more independent and resourceful. As part of this initiative Dompetku, Indosat’s mobile money service, provides working capital to female micro-entrepreneurs who have limited access to affordable resources.
She Works - Driving change internally
We place a strong focus on female employees and their career opportunities within the company by tailor-making leadership development and accelerated-learning initiatives to actively help women up the corporate ladder. In a coalition with private sector partners we joined the IFC, a member of the World Bank Group, in a pledge to improve employment opportunities for more than 300,000 women over the next two years. The partnerships, called She Works, will implement measures to enhance women's employment opportunities – such as mentorship programs, flexible working arrangements, and leadership training to increase diversity in management.

"How Women Work" in Qatar
We are a longstanding partner of “How Women Work” in Qatar, a national community of practitioners that aims to provide information and networking opportunities to empower women, with a particular focus on female entrepreneurs, executives, employees and jobseekers. As part of our support every year we support the HWW annual conference which brings women together to exchange ideas, share ambitions and aspirations and work to identify solutions to break down the barriers that stand in their way of getting there.
Geek Girls in Myanmar
To kickstart female participation in Myanmar’s tech scene Ooredoo helped to launch Geek Girls Myanmar in October 2014. This community group of female technology professionals, students and enthusiasts was the first designed-for-women initiative in Myanmar’s technology industry.
“SmartWomen” is an app designed especially for women in Oman, a version of which is soon to be launched in Qatar. It provides an online community incorporating a variety of features such as expert content, for professional and personal development, and networking tools to support women's economic empowerment. The SmartWomen app will be launched soon by Ooredoo Kuwait and Ooredoo Qatar.
